PORTLAND — AARP Maine welcomes Amy Regan Gallant as associate state director for Advocacy and Outreach.

She will work on outreach initiatives designed to enhance awareness and community relationships, while identifying and engaging volunteers in grass-roots activities.

Gallant began her career in public action working for Preble Street in Portland where she served Homeless Voices for Justice in September 2007. She coordinated social change efforts through more than 100 public events. In July of 2013, Gallant became the advocacy coordinator managing the Maine Hunger Initiative, Affordable Care Act Healthcare Outreach for Veterans and Homeless Voices for Justice.

She organized the 100,000 Homes Portland Campaign where 60 community stakeholders from multiple sectors engaged in a survey outreach event to 150 people facing homelessness.

Gallant was appointed by Gov. Paul LePage as commissioner of the Maine Permanent Commission on the Status of Women. She also contributed to the planning committee of the first New England Women’s Policy Conference in collaboration with Commissions across New England.

Gallant said, “With so much at stake for Maine’s at-risk populations, it is important for our members to know that AARP is here for them and that we will work together to safeguard their well-being.”

Gallant holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics from Saint Anselm College and a Master of Science degree in global affairs from New York University.
