Recently, I saw a report on television that really made me angry. Some group was trying to keep a gatekeeper at a U.S. Air Force base from saying “Have a blessed day.”
Now, I can hardly see where that’s offensive, either for non-religious people or others. It is not like that statement is a derogatory remark.
What happened to freedom of religion? I thought it meant to have the tolerance to let anyone practice what they believed, not prevent them.
A couple month ago, I was in the hospital for surgery and an elderly nun came into my room and asked if she could say a prayer for me. I will be the first to say I am not a religious person, but I let her — not because I had a come-to-Jesus moment or to make me feel better — but because it made her feel better. It took all of 30 seconds out of my day. Wow.
