1926 – 2015

AUBURN — Kenneth R. White, 88, a resident of Main Street, Jay, died Saturday, March 21, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 30, 1926, in New Sharon, the son of William White and Marjorie (Quimby) White. Ken attended school in Jay.

Ken served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Tortuga during World War II.

On March 17, 1945, in Livermore Falls, he married his wife of 63 years, Barbara Coolidge. She passed away June 18, 2008.

Ken worked for the State of Maine DOT for 43 years, retiring in 1987 as supervisor.

In his earlier years, Ken was invited to play in Major League Baseball for the Cardinals, but he opted out because it would take him away from his family that he adored. Therefore, he had the best of both worlds, helping to inspire others in the sport of baseball by coaching little league baseball and began the Babe Ruth league. He also continued playing on the town team in Canton.

Besides the love of baseball, Ken enjoyed playing cards, traveling, bombing around in his Camaro with his little buddy “Max,” going out to eat and just enjoying life in general. His greatest joy though was spending time with his family and following their sports and events.

He is survived his son, Brian “Skip” White and his wife, Deirdre “Dee Dee,” of Monmouth and his daughter, Pamela Green and her husband, Steve, of Turner; five grandchildren, Vonda Folsom, Shelley Green and her fiancé, Matthew Hiscock, Kim Folsom and partner, Alan Elliot, Chris White and his wife, Jen, and Ryan Green and his wife, Edith; eight great-grandchildren, Justin Folsom, Brandon Shink, Tyler Green and partner, Nikki Tremblay, Jordan Green, Madison “Maddie” Green, Morgan White, Keegan Drayton, Bennett “Ben” White, Trevor and Joseph Moore, Devin Dumais and Alicia Albert; great-great-grandchildren, Miriah, Tamvara and Alex Folsom and Brooklyn Green; his sister, Ethlyn and Donald Clifford of Dixfield; sister-in-law, Dorothy White of Jay; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son; his wife, Barbara White; brothers, Calvin and William White; sister, Charlotte Atwood; brother-in-law, Lawrence Atwood; sister-in-law, Audrey White; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Rita Coolidge.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Orchard Park Nursing Home in Farmington and the Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn for the exceptional care and support to Ken and his family.
