NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library will host Chuck Lakin of Last Things: Alternatives at the End of Life from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Marcy 26, for an informational workshop.
Following a brief discussion of a “Without,” a book of poems by Donald Hall, Lakin will present a workshop, “Six Feet Under: Funeral Choices.” He said, “We’ll start by talking about the legal documents everyone should have in place, then cover planning ahead, writing things down and having a conversation with family about those plans.”
That will lead into a Q&A guided by questions of those in attendance. Lakin is prepared to talk about funeral options, home funerals, green cemeteries, alkaline hydrolysis, family burying grounds, scattering ashes, paperwork, whatever attendees are interested in discussing or learning more about.
He said, “We’ll share stories. I’ll bet that you’ll even laugh sometimes.”
Lakin is a woodworker and home funeral educator, whose interest in this topic came from his experience at his father’s death. He wanted to be part of what happened after the death, but didn’t know what to do, and missed out. Now he knows and shares that information with individuals and groups interested in learning more.
