DIXFIELD — Regional School Unit 10 Superintendent Craig King presented the board Monday night with $440,000 worth of items he’d like in the 2015-16 budget to help restore cuts made last year.

A proposed budget amount has not been announced.

The budget for this fiscal year, which ends, June 30, is $36.17 million.

“A 1.2 percent increase is very speculative, but our goal is not to exceed that number,” King said.

Among increases for 2015-16 are a 2 to 3 percent salary hike totalling $800,000, a 5 percent hike in health insurance costs, debt for the nutrition program, MaineCare and a class action dispute with MaineCare.

Last year, the district cut 44 full and part-time positions.

Possible restorations for 2015-16 include:

* $25,000 added to the co-curricular fund. About $150,000 was cut this year.

* $100,000 to restore K-5 music, art, physical education and library services from half-time each to full-time each.

* $190,000 for a new contract for laptops and iPads for K-5 students.

* $21,000 for a restructured position at Buckfield Junior Senior High School to provide support for administration and athletics.

* $15,000 to restore a stipend for the assistant principal position at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford.

* $22,000 to redesign the administration at Dirigo middle and high schools; one principal and one assistant principal for both schools, and a half-time athletic director for both schools.

* $27,000 for a half-time guidance counselor at Mountain Valley High School.

* $40,000 for a two-fifths time speech therapist and a four-fifths time social worker for special services.

King said the additions come from his request of each principal to name one thing that would make a difference in their schools.

He said the amount of state aid is estimated at $18.96 million, or about $830,000 more than this fiscal year.

The board will hold another budget workshop April 13 at Mountain Valley High School when new positions will be presented, along with the entire proposed budget, according to the district website
