STRONG — Selectmen on Tuesday evening reviewed the town’s personnel policy, streamlining and combining individual items to a five-page document.
They revised the lengthy 2012 policy, deciding on changes that clarified hourly and overtime pay, holiday policies and payment for nonemployee services.
The board also determined that Town Clerk Betsy DuBois, now working as a full-time employee, will be offered the standard insurance package given to the other three full-time employees.
Selectmen reviewed the standard employee policy for paid sick days, bereavement leave and jury duty. Employees will receive vacation pay after a full year of work. The two part-time employees do not receive a benefit package.
Selectman Milt Baston discussed the costs to offer a group health insurance policy through Maine Community Health Options, rather than the Maine Municipal Association’s current plan. Although he did not have final comparisons of the two plans, selectmen agreed they should do a review to determine whether they could cut costs by as much as $14,000 a year. Life and long-term disability insurance would have to be purchased separately, he said.
Selectmen also agreed to review costs they are charged through their Bangor Savings Bank accounts and compare with other banks to find ways to save on town accounts.
