RUMFORD — Oxford County Mental Health is looking for an affordable home in the Rumford area to purchase, or accept as a donation, to house the residents of Andy’s Place, 150 Congress St.

The home would help Oxford County Mental Health Services in its goal to create a better place for the residents to live, learn and eventually become independent members of society.

Andy’s Place is a four-bed, private nonmedical institution, providing 24/7 support to adults who suffer from severe behavioral health issues and require daily support to develop skills to transition to independent living. Residents learn to regulate their medications properly, understand routines, practice good hygiene and develop interpersonal effectiveness skills.

Andy’s Place is on the third floor of the OCMHS office building. It is a very small, converted office space and is not conducive to carrying out the program’s primary goal of community reintegration.

By relocating to a community-based residence, residents could engage in beneficial domestic activities such as maintaining a garden, shoveling snow and planning backyard barbecues. They would have the opportunity to develop independent living skills and have pride their accomplishments.

Those interested in helping meet the goal of a new home may call Pam at 207- 364-3549 during business hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Oxford County Mental Health Services is a nonprofit agency that offers a multitude of services to people with behavioral health issues.
