1933 – 2015

LEWISTON — Richard H. Grondin, 81, of Lewiston, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 24, at the Hospice House in Auburn after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Born in Lewiston on June 30, 1933, he was the son of Henry P. and Lena M. Rancourt Grondin. He was educated in local schools and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1956.

He returned to Lewiston, and on June 15, 1957, he married the love of his life, Jeannine L. Morin, in the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

Richard worked for the Lewiston Fire Department from 1961 until his retirement in 1990, and worked as a Certified IMSA tester for the R.B. Allen Co. and master electrician for Grondin Electric.

From 1977 to 1990, he served as Lewiston’s superintendent of fire alarms, and helped set up the local 911 call center.

In his spare time, Richard enjoyed watching sports, especially the Red Sox and the Bruins. His priority was spending time with his family and friends.

He was a member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, and a lifetime member of the International Municipal Signal Association and the Maine Fire Chiefs’ Association.

In addition to his loving wife of Lewiston, Dick is survived by a son, Donald and wife, Alice Totman-Grondin, of Lewiston; three daughters, Susan Grondin and significant other, Steve Hayes, of Old Orchard Beach, Diane and husband, Richard Belanger, of Greene, and Elaine and husband, David Pacileo, of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Leo and wife, Virginia, of Bridgton; 10 grandchildren, Kristen Grondin, Kari and husband, Eric Freed, Amanda and husband, Adam Carlson, Garrett Hayes, Brendan Grondin, Ryan Belanger, Lindsay Belanger, Angelina Klouthis, John Klouthis and Carmin Pacileo; three great-grandchildren, Kayley Freed, Dalton and Ezekiel Delorme; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters, Irene Levasseur, Priscilla Roux, Anita Lacoste and Louise Cormier.
