Fight day has arrived, and the mysteries are about be solved. The numbers are in after Thursday night’s weigh-in but that is about all that is certain about tonight’s match-up as Joey Gamache (18-0, 11 KOs) prepares to defend his IBF-Intercontinental championship against Nelson Rodriguez (19-5-2, 13 KOs) at the Central Maine Civic Center. Both fighters weighed-in at exactly the 130-pound junior lightweight limit, posed for some pictures, and departed. Few words were exchanged, except for Gamache’s advice that Rodriguez’s ribs and chest be measured closely. “That’s where he’ll take the most punishment,” Gamache said, as he feigned throwing body shots and walked away. “Close your big mouth,” Rodriguez shouted, after a quick English lesson from his trainer, Felix Pintor.
