PORTLAND (AP) — Maine’s largest city is planning its first tall ships event in 15 years.
The organizer, Sailing Ships Portland, says the Coast Guard barque Eagle is one of eight tall ships that’ll sail through Portland Harbor on July 18 and dock on the waterfront.
Alex Agnew from Sailing Ships Portland says the event will provide an opportunity for people to see the ships up close and to go onboard and meet the crews.
It’s the first such event in Portland since OpSail Maine 2000. Spanish utility Iberdrola, which owns Central Maine Power Co., is the festival’s chief sponsor.
