GRAY — A New Gloucester man was arrested Thursday, accused of pretending to be a federal agent while assaulting a pair of bar patrons and harassing others.

Peter Desantis, 44, of 186 Bluff Circle, was arrested at his workplace Thursday afternoon and charged with four counts of impersonating a public servant and two counts of assault.

Police said the assaults took place Tuesday at the Tailgate Bar and Grill on the Portland Road where witnesses told police that Desantis claimed to be from the Drug Enforcement Agency and conducting an investigation. Desantis searched several bar patrons, threatening to arrest them, and assaulted two men before leaving the bar, police said.

Police searched for the suspect, but did not find him until Thursday when they went to his place of employment.

Police said Desantis is not affiliated with any law enforcement agency.

He was arrested and taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland where bail was set at $250.

Investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said there may be more charges.
