EAST DIXFIELD — For the 86th year, RS Osgood & Sons held an Open House last week.

The Open House is a time to encourage farmers and home owners to purchase parts and supplies for the coming growing season and view tools and equipment that could save time and cut down on labor. Plenty of free food is also available to  thank customers for their business.

The large bay where equipment is usually serviced is transformed into a makeshift buffet line and seating area. Joanne Karkos was busy flipping pancakes that would be served with maple syrup. Caterer Judy Smith and her crew first put out donuts and later added cole slaw, two hot dishes, hot dogs, and a variety of desserts.

Several members of the Wilton Lions Club were preparing fresh French fries. Ken Wiley said Osgood helps with our Food Bank and Special Olympics Projects. “They help us meet our commitments, so we come over and help during the Open House,” he said.

Clients with the Hope Association in Rumford made a day of it. After grabbing a snack, they went outside and toured the many Kubota tractors on display. They even took time to have a snowball fight thanks to the fresh snow that had fallen overnight.

Staff with the Healthy Community Coalition was on hand offering free blood pressure readings. They also encouraged those who use well water to have the water tested because the state is known to have high levels of radon and iron.

Franklin County Farm Bureau again had a tool guessing contest to see if visitors could identify what the tool was and what it is used for. The winner will receive a $25 gift card redeemable at RS Osgood & Sons. Helpful brochures were also available for those interested.

Doug Spencer of Wilton stopped by with his grandson, Austin Spencer. They came to last year’s open house and had so much fun that they came again. “Austin wants to sit on every tractor here,” the elder Spencer said.
