LEWISTON — Central Maine Medical Center will sponsor a Diabetes Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, at the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, 29 Lowell Square.
The fair will feature presentations on lifestyle, exercise, cooking and nutrition. A vendor fair will offer the opportunity to learn about diabetes care technology and participate in blood pressure, cholesterol (lipid), and A1C screenings.
The day’s events will kick off with opening remarks, followed by a presentation by Greg Pfaff on “Managing Diabetes: The Next Step.”
Pfaff was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2000 and, though he initially experienced a variety of problems coping with the disease, he learned not only to control the condition but also his emotional response to living with it.
In 2004 he became an A1C Champion and now speaks about managing and living with diabetes.
Other presenters include: CMMC Health and Fitness Center Supervisor Nate Littlefield, a certified health-fitness specialist, and registered dietitians Brady Goldschmidt and Jamie Pepin.
An open forum will give participants the opportunity to ask questions.
The fair is open to the public at no charge; however, participation is limited to 40 people. To register, call 795-7520.
