FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors voted Tuesday to hire a director of special services and an assistant principal of the Mt. Blue Campus.

The board hired Christine Gatto-Shea, interim director of special education, as the full-time director of special services beginning July 1. She will be paid $89,929, Superintendent Tom Ward said Wednesday.

Gatto-Shea was hired in August as interim director for four days a week.

Directors also hired interim Assistant Principal Sam Dunbar as the full-time assistant principal of the Mt. Blue Campus, which houses Mt. Blue High School and the Foster Career and Technical Education Center.

Dunbar will drop the interim status July 1. He has been with the district for nine years, eight as a social studies teacher and the past year as assistant principal.

His salary was approved at $75,576,Ward said.

Ward also informed the board that Julia Davis has been hired as a long-term substitute social worker. And Judith Hayden, an education technician III in special education, has resigned, Ward said.

Several retirements were announced: Pauline Rodrigue, district volunteer coordinator; Mary-Anne Castonguay, speech pathologist at Mallett School in Farmington; Donna Mann, a Title I teacher at Cape Cod Hill School in New Sharon; and Myrna Robinson, a teacher at Mt. Blue Middle School in Farmington.
