ROCKLAND — Children ages eight to 11 years old are invited to join art instructor Trelawney O’Brien and other creative kids this April school break for Art Camp at the Farnsworth’s Gamble Education Center. The weeklong camp will take place Tuesday, April 22, through Thursday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to noon.

This April break, join other young artists as they explore and build sculptures of all shapes and sizes. Using found materials, students will create small dioramas, a “mystery box” and explore art installation. They will be learning about contemporary sculpture and artists. Be inspired and come create outside the box. (Parents, please note that students will be using hot glue guns and Xacto knives.) Participants should bring work gloves and long sleeved shirts.

Instructor Trelawney O’Brien is a fine artist and art educator who has made her home in Rockland. Trelawney currently teaches and inspires students at Rockland Middle School through the RASA After-School Art Program, has co-taught art classes for kids at the Farnsworth and was an instructor and head of art camps through Splatter Kids at the Lincoln Street Center. This program is funded in part by grants from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, an anonymous contributor and generous contributions from the Edward Page Crane Fund of the Maine Community Foundation and other supporters of children’s education programs at the Farnsworth Art Museum.

“Art Camp: Creating Outside the Box” will take place at the Gamble Education Center, located on the corner of Grace and Union Street in Rockland. The cost is $72 for members and $90 for nonmembers; scholarships are available.
