Auburn — Charles A. Buteau, 87, a resident of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, at the Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
He was born in Lewiston on June 25, 1927, the son of Philibert and Anna (Lebrun) Buteau.
Charlie was educated in Lewiston schools. Following his education, he joined the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War. He was self-employed over 40 years as a general contractor and also served 25 years and one day as the city of Lewiston’s building inspector.
Besides his work, he loved gardens and maintaining his apartment buildings.
Survivors include one son, Donald Buteau and wife, Brenda, of Auburn; one daughter, Claire Storm and husband, Bill, of Wales; one sister, Anna Faucher of Lewiston; one godchild, Diane Moreau and husband, Aldo, of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Brian Buteau, Valerie DeMambro and husband, Andy, Michael Dumas and wife, Katie, Karin Mancini and husband, Nick; two great-granddaughters, Allyssa Buteau and Isla Mancini. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Monita; three brothers, Phil, Leandre and George; and one sister, Rita L’Heureux.
The Buteau family would like to thank the staff at the Hospice House for the exceptional care given to their father during his final days.
