Ground leveling work and excavation on the site of the Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute is underway and indications at this early date are that the Dec. 1 completion date will be met. Deane M. Woodward, the Auburn architect who designed the CMVTI initial building, said Friday night work commenced April 5 and that because there was still frost in the ground at that time, the first week was spent in stripping off top soil. By the first of last week, the frost had left the ground and excavating work for the foundation of the structure started. According to Woodward, the building is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 1, and the move of the school from its temporary quarters in Lewiston to the permanent building is expected to be made during the Christmas vacation next December. The vocational school is being constructed on the former site of the Auburn City Farm which was closed last year on the re tirement of its superintendent. The farm’s main house will be left standing and used as a construction office.
