FARMINGTON — Crawling into the second half of the North Atlantic Conference baseball season, the University of Maine at Farmington finds itself clinging to the fourth and final playoff spot following a 2-2 weekend against New England College.

UMF (7-7 conference), holding onto the No. 4 position in the NAC standings, will begin a 10-game conference stretch over a six day span that will ultimately determine the Beavers post season fate.

Trailing the Beavers by a game are Lyndon State (5-7) conference with 12 games left in the league. UMF holds the tiebreaker against the Hornets.

Eight of the Beavers remaining games are against two of the top three teams in the NAC, No. 2 Castleton and No. 3 Thomas. Husson tops the circuit at 16-4.

Kyle Peterson picked up the first win for the Beavers over NEC, firing a three-hitter in a 2-1 decision. Jimmy Neal and Chad Snowman paced the offense with two hits each.

Sean Cabanis knocked in the game winning run hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.

UMF pounded out a dozen hits in a 12-0 win over NEC, on Sunday. Jordan Croteau had a double and a pair of singles for the Beavers, Ben Keene added a double and triple.

UMF travels to Thomas on Wednesday for a doubleheader before playing six straight games at home at Hippach Field. Thursday Thomas comes to Farmington for a pair, then Saturday and Sunday Castleton will be in town for a four-game set.

Monday the Beavers travel to Colby-Sawyer and finish out the regular season on Tuesday, playing in Orono against Division I University of Maine Black Bears.
