LEWISTON — Hampton Inn Lewiston-Auburn recently received Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification by the United States Green Building Council. LEED recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices.

Opened in September 2014, the property was built with use of low volatile organic compounds, including paint, adhesives, sealants and carpets, that contribute to better indoor air quality. The hotel features a white roof, which decreases the heat island effect associated with dark roofing materials. The hotel’s landscaping uses a zero irrigation system and the exterior lighting is dark-sky friendly.

All windows used in the building of the hotel are high-performance windows with climate control glazing. The cellulose insulation, made from 100 percent recycled paper, provides excellent insulation and sound attenuation properties and reduces energy usage. Recycled content in steel, sheathing, wall studs, insulation and floor tiles was also used, along with regional content in steel trusses and decking, concrete, masonry, lumber and sheathing. Wright-Ryan Construction served as general contractor.

The 93-room hotel, located at 15 Lincoln St. in Lewiston, is managed by LodgeSys, Inc., a hotel management company with offices in Portland and Portsmouth, N.H.
