I am responding to an article (posted April 17 online, April 18 print version) about a bill, LD 600, that would expand those prohibited from possessing guns.
During the past 15 years, Maine has seen an increasing number of domestic violence cases where the end result is extremely tragic. I completely agree with LD 600 and give my full support to Rep. Richard Pickett, R-Dixfield. He has seen those cases firsthand.
Although the bill might get a lot of people thinking about their Second Amendment rights, we all need to remember what exactly is being protected — a human life that has already gone through hell and probably has a tremendous amount of anxiety wondering if that person will hurt them more if given the chance.
The bill would help to relinquish some of those fears.
