LEWISTON — The Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn recently met to identify its priorities for 2015. As part of its 2015 goal to encourage more institutions in Lewiston-Auburn to increase their procurement of healthy food that is grown locally, the council is planning a “Meet the Buyers” event.

At the event, local buyers from large institutions, agencies and restaurants will be able to interact directly with local farmers and producers to facilitate connections and develop new purchasing relationships. The event will be open to all buyers and farmers interested in learning more about local procurement in central and southern Maine. The event is being planned for the fall.

Other 2015 goals include exploring farm-to-institution strategies, food policy and creating an online calendar of local nutrition and culinary programs.

The GFCLA was formed in the summer of 2012 to create and support improvements to the food system of Lewiston-Auburn so that the entire community has access to good food.
