PARIS — The First Baptist Church of Paris on Paris Hill was founded in 1791. This month it has brought its new worship style into the 21st century. As of March 29, the church moved its new worship service to 9 am. to better accommodate its younger attenders. The style of the music is now more contemporary and is presented via videos.

Many churches are moving to a more contemporary style, according to the Rev. Mary Beth Caffey, pastor of the church.

“We have too few folks to have a praise band, but have gone to videos to present the music. This also allows the church to present a wide variety of styles of music. We have everything from bluegrass to modern praise bands,” Caffey said in a press release.

As of Sunday, May 3, the church will also return its traditional worship service at the 10:30 a.m. time with videos presenting the traditional hymns.

“Music is a major element of a vibrant worship experience. We want to accommodate at least two groups of folks in the styles of worship they prefer,” Caffey said.

New Sunday School classes for the children will also start on May 3. This, plus the new times and worship styles, has truly modernized the worship experiences at this historic church. For further information, please contact Rev. Caffey at 754-7970 or
