NORWAY — Raymond J. Walker Sr. died at home on April 18 with his sister Phyllis and his companion Peggy by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 26, 1943, the eighth of 16 children born to Gerald and Margaret Tibbetts Walker of Bethel.

He married Joyce Abbott and together they raised six children, including a set of triplets. He worked at Penley’s Clothespin Factory and the tannery and spent many years logging.

Mr. Walker was a caregiver who cared for his cousin, the lady next door and friends until he was too ill to care for them. He enjoyed babysitting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He loved to fish and hunt, but he was a farmer at heart. He enjoyed the time he spent with his animals —  everyone knew when baby pigs or goats were born. He was especially proud of the black Angus he recently purchased to add to the small farm he ran with the help of his son and daughter-in-law.

He was known as a wheeler and dealer. People, some he didn’t know, would stop, looking for something he might have or might know where to find.

He was a kind and generous person who loved his family. Every one of them. He will be missed.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife; three sons, Paul, Raymond Jr. and Russell and their spouses; two daughters, Deborah and husband and Paula and companion; brothers Stanley, Douglas, Tommy, Stevie and Harold; sisters Phyllis, Gertrude, Gail and Terri and their spouses; two sisters-in-law, Florence and Rose and son-in-law Jonathon Morgan.

He was predeceased by his parents; daughters Kathy Jo and Pauline; brothers Ronald, David and Gerald; and sisters Sharon, Barbara Jean and Geraldine.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in East Sumner.
