PORTLAND — The renowned trio The Wailin’ Jennys, featuring Mainer Heather Masse, will be appearing at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, at the State Theater, 609 Congress St. Tickets are $25 and $30.
The group is touring in support of its most recent album release, “Bright Morning Stars.” The project united the Jennys with Grammy-nominated producer Mark Howard known for his work with Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris, for their most ambitious album to date. “Bright Morning Stars” combines fresh and innovative sounds with the band’s signature harmonies, a mix of Americana, pop and traditional folk.
The Wailin’ Jennys began as a happy accident of solo singer-songwriters getting together for a one-time-only performance at a tiny guitar shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Founding members Ruth Moody and Nicky Mehta along Heather Masse, who is now based in New York, continue to create and perform music to critical acclaim.
“Bright Morning Stars” is a collection of heart-filled songs. The album takes its name from a traditional tune that The Jennys cover — a beautiful a capella tune about the passing of loved ones.
