100 years ago, 1915
Work on the permanent streets and roads in Lewiston will begin within a few days. In fact the gas and electric light companies that will be affected by the city work are making preparations to do their part. The bituminous paving will be laid on College street from Campus avenue down toward, if not quite to Sabatis, from Webster to Sabatis on Pine, to be continued to Birch on Park street, extended south on Lisbon street and the State road continued on Main street.

50 years ago, 1965
A young moose had its “bellyful” of people and police cruisers in Lewiston this morning. When the animal was discovered in town, in the vicinity of Farwell School, police officers in cruisers attempted to force it back out of town. It worked, after a fashion and a few frantic moments. The animal, which was estimated to weigh some 200-300 pounds, reportedly came out of a wooded area behind Holy Family School. Police chased the moose from Highland Avenue through Haley and Tampa Streets into a wooded area.

25 years ago, 1990
A request by the Auburn Public Library trustees that a referendum for bonds for a new library be put on the June 12 ballot was rejected by the City Council Monday night in a 3-2 vote. The referendum question, which would be advisory, would allow residents to offer their opinion on whether the City Council should authorize the issuance of $5.8 million in bonds for construction of a new library and renovation of the old one for city office space.
