AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has scheduled a variety of events for May, most of which are for those ages 12 to 18.
* Friday at the Movies. May 1 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. Relax after a long week. This month, in honor of baseball season, the movie will be “Field of Dreams.” There will be popcorn and candy.
* Teens in Space. From noon to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, May 6, 13 and 20. Tweens who are in 5th and 6th grade should visit the second floor on half-day Wednesdays. Crafts or board games are available for the asking or stop by to get a head start on your homework or just hang out with your friends.
* Teen Anime Club. From 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Get animated over anime! Drop in to talk about your favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime and try your hand at drawing your own characters.
* Gaming Hour. From 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, May 13 through 22 in the Androscoggin Community Room. Take a break from studying and stop by the lower level for video games and snacks. XBox and Wii available for games rated for teens and younger only.
* Safe Voices. From 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 14. Hang out with Julia from Safe Voices. Each month she will visit the Teen Space to chat about relationships and work on projects.
* APL Teens: Teen Advisory Board Open Forum from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 15. Teens in Space. What do you want at the library? Do you have an author you love and want to read more? Do you wish the Library offered more music events? Or maybe you have some great ideas on how to decorate the Teen Space. We want to hear from you. Join us in the Teen Space for this annual “open forum” to talk about the library and teens. For tweeens ages 12-18.
* DIY Teens. Takeover: Zentangle. From 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May, 20 in the Teen Space. Join in every month for a project. From duct tape art to photography, create your own video games or make your own magnetic poetry. This month, we’re going to try our hand at Zentangle, an abstract drawing created using repetitive patterns.
* Maine Job Corps. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the Conference Room. For teens and new adults. If you had the opportunity to take part in a life-changing experience that gave you the skills you need to succeed in today’s job market, and it didn’t cost anything, would you be interested? If so, the Job Corps may be for you! Jill Moody from the Maine Job Corps will visit to explain how the program works and who is eligible.
* DIY Teens. Media Club from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 27. Create in the Media Lab. Movies, music and graphic arts. If you can imagine it, you can create it. Make trailers, podcasts and more that will be posted on the website.
* SAPRS visit. From 3 to 4 p.m., Thursday, May 28, in the Teen Space. Molly from the Sexual Assault Crisis Center will drop by for crafts, games and good conversations.
* Flashback Friday. From 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 29, in the Teen Space. We will have some of your favorite childhood activities, including Play Doh, puzzles and Candyland, so you can play to your heart’s content! This program is for those ages 12 to 18.
