ORONO – Public star shows at the Emera Astronomy Center at UMaine bring the stars and planets to visitors of all ages on Friday nights at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.. Each star show features a tour of the Maine sky and tips on how to view upcoming astronomical events.

Friday evenings feature adventures into space to visit the planets in our solar system and see what makes each of them unique. Explore volcanoes 80,000 feet tall, and hurricanes that blow for 400 years. Travel through multicolored rings suspended in space, and navigate the asteroid belt. Come explore the worlds of our solar system in “Cosmic Journey” on May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

For younger sky watchers, Sunday afternoon shows introduce the brother-sister duo, Jack and Annie, and their Magic Tree House as they look for answers to their questions about the universe. With the help of an astronomer, the Internet, an astronaut, books and the writer of a mysterious note, Jack and Annie are taken on a wondrous journey of adventure and learning. This exciting voyage will carry visitors to the planets and far out into the Universe where Jack and Annie nearly get . . . Well, we don’t want to give it away. The adventure is just beginning! Come see “Magic Treehouse: Space Mission” on May 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.

Admission is $6 per person and seating is limited. For more information and reservations please call (207) 581-1341 or visitAstro.UMaine.edu. Private shows and school field trips can be arranged for these and other shows.
