PARIS — Cam Nadeau, Ethan Nadeau and Ganan Mancini each scored a pair of goals, and goalie Jeff Frasca made nine saves as Edward Little notched its first victory of the season with 10-4 over Oxford Hills in a boys’ lacrosse game Tuesday.
The Red Eddies jumped out to a 4-1 lead by halftime before scoring six goals in the second half. Steve Sinclair Isaac Cote, Matt Verrill, Ryan Jones also scored goals.
For the Vikings, Kelton Loper and Finn Williams each scored a goal, and Deven Rogers scored two goals.
Softball
Buckfield 34, Temple 2
BUCKFIELD — Ashley Campbell went 5-for-5 and Buckfield pounded out 24 hits, overwhelming Temple Academy with a 34-2 victory in a five-inning softball game Tuesday.
The Bucks (2-0) built a 29-1 lead after three innings. Abby Shields got the win, pitching just three innings before Amber Arsenault came in relief.
Temple’s Jacey Richard and Vanessa Currie each had two hits.
Baseball
Leavitt 8, Nokomis 7
NEWPORT — Ian Godfrey and Mitchell Davis each singled in runs and Leavitt got a defensive play at the plate to end the game Tuesday with an 8-7 KVAC baseball win over Nokomis in eight innings.
Tied 6-6 entering the eighth, Godfrey and Davis singled in runs for the lead. Nokomis got one back on a Rich Upton single. The Warriors had runners on and tried to score the tying run but the Hornets got the final out with a play at home.
Davis struck out nine batters and had two hits while Godfrey and Chad Morin each had a pair of hits for Leavitt.
College baseball
UMaine 14, UMF 3
ORONO — The University of Maine Baseball team earned a 14-3 win against Maine-Farmington on Tuesday. Brett Chappell led the Maine offense as he went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Shane Bussey also had three hits in the win for the Black Bears.
Maine improves to 16-22, while UMaine Farmington falls to 17-18.
Maine scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, sending 10 players up to bat. Steven Adam doubled to start off. Scott Heath followed with a single to right field. Brett Chappell had a double to left field, driving home Adam for the first run of the night and his 30th RBI of the season. Luke Morrill and Brian Doran both singled, Doran with his 20th RBI for of the season, and Heath scored the second run of the game. Kevin Stypulkowski had a sacrifice fly for Chappell to score the third run. Danny Diaz then singled to center field, with Doran and Morrill scoring the fourth and fifth runs, respectively.
For UMain- Farmington in the fourth inning, two runs were scored on a double from Jimmy Neal, and Grayson Beressi scored another run on a sacrifice fly from Jordan Croteau.
Bowdoin 15, Bates 4
LEWISTON — Bowdoin College combined the starting pitching of Henry Van Zant with 12 hits and 10 bases on balls to defeat the Bates College 15-4 in a NESCAC East Division game Tuesday at Leahey Field.
Bowdoin mounted a two-out, three-run rally to start the game. Bates starting right-hander Rob DiFranco walked Aaron Rosen and hit Chad Martin to start the rally, and Cole DiRoberto drove them both home with a single down the right-field line. DiFranco gave up a walk to Peter Cimini, and DiRoberto came home on a wild pitch.
The Bobcats got two back in the bottom of the first. Rockwell Jackson hit a one-out single to center, and Sam Berry followed with a double against the left-field fence. Nate Pajka then wristed a single into shallow right to score both runners.
College softball
Bates sweeps
LEWISTON — Brenna Callahan threw a two-hit shutout and Kelsey Freedman followed with a one-hit shutout, as the Bates College softball team defeated Thomas College in both games of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Lafayette St. Field.
Bates won the first game, 1-0 and erupted for 12 hits to win Game 2 13-0 on senior day.
Bates (14-20) completed the season with a 9-2 record over the final 11 games and the most wins in a season since the 2012 squad posted 18 victories.
The win gives senior Bates pitcher Freedman (10-10) her most wins in a season as the right hander leaves Bates as the career leader in strikeouts. Freedman also holds the record for strikeouts in a season and strikeouts in a game (17). Senior pitcher Callahan finished the season with a career best in wins for a season (4), and fellow senior Kira Shaikh added five more stolen bases for the afternoon, giving her 23 on the season, which ranks second in the record books.
Karen Lockhart provided all the offense her team would need with a home run in game one, while four players had multi-hit games for the Bobcats in Game 2, led by a 4-4 performance from Shaikh and a career-high four RBIs from Emma Schiller.
