Spring cleaning at Treat Memorial Library! We have finished weeding the collection and all discarded items have been added to Elsie’s Re-read Used Book Emporium. The bookstore is now completely restocked with “new” items. For a mere donation you may take home any item or items on its shelves.

The hours our volunteer keeps it open are Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other times during the library’s open hours, ask a staff member to take you down to Elsie’s for a good browse. All funds raised help support your library!

Speaking of funds, we currently have a fundraiser in which there are 30 cash prizes – one for each day in June! Who couldn’t use extra cash? Tickets are one for $5 (five dollars) or three for $10 (ten dollars), available at the library and from some Trustees around town. Prizes vary from $10 to $50 – not a bad return on just $5. All monies (aside from the prizes) will go to replace much needed library furniture. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Another part of our spring cleaning has been rearranging sections of the collection. For a long time we have hoped to create a separate space for teens. After weeding was finished we had more room to shift books around. Now the Young Adult Fiction is located in the room just off the main entrance (it used to be the Maine Room). The Maine Collection is now located where the Science Fiction/Fantasy section was. Science Fiction/Fantasy is now where the Young Adult Fiction used to be. Confused? Come on in and we will gladly give you a tour!

We would also like to remind our patrons that we are always happy to hear what you would like added to the collection. Have a favorite author or series you would like to see on the shelves? Let us know! We may not always be able to order everything we would like to, but we will do our best to get the books you want into your hands.

Even though it’s only spring, summer is fast approaching. Our Summer Reading Program revolves around heroes this year. We all know the super heroes, but how many local heroes do you know? We want to cover as much of the range of heroes as time permits. Registration will start as school ends for the summer. Don’t miss out on the chance to be your own super hero of reading!

Staff member Nick Berry has started a Teen Writers Group that has taken off well. Through mutual support and input members will learn to be better writers. This group is not limited to any one genre – non-fiction, poetry, fantasy and more are included.

The group meets every two weeks on Thursdays at 6 p.m. The next meeting dates are April 30th, May 14th, and May 28th. Over the next few weeks we will also be hosting visitors from the University of Maine at Farmington, including two professors from the creative writing program and members of the UMF Writers Guild. If interested in joining or you have any questions, please call the library and speak with Nick.

Assistant Director Brianna Rush is facilitating a Spring Book Discussion Group, which meets the second Thursday of each month. The next date is May 14th at 3 p.m. The group will be discussing Here Sits a Monkey: A Maine Mystery by local, self-published author Diane Taylor-Moore Hines. Diane herself is a member of the group and we are excited about this unique opportunity to discuss a book club selection with the author! If interested in joining this group, please call the library and speak with Brianna.

Our next Homeschool Meeting will be May 21st at 3 p.m. If you are a homeschooling family or considering becoming one, please join us. All ages are welcome and there will be activities provided. This is a chance to connect with other homeschooling families, hear about and plan upcoming events, explore resources, and let us know how we can support homeschooling patrons.

Our other regular programs are: Pre-school Story Time on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.; Family Story Time on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.; and the Knit/Crochet Group on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.

Any questions or for more information about any of these events, please call the Library at 897-3631. Pick up the activities calendar at the Circulation Desk the next time you are in the Library. Always remember that you are able to log in to your own account and access the Download Library through our online catalog at https://treat.biblionix.com/atoz/catalog/
