BANGOR — Penobscot Theatre Company will rock the Bangor Opera House with “A Piece of Her Heart: A Tribute to Janis Joplin,” that will run for four performances, Thursday, June 4 through Sunday, June 7.
In this one-woman show, a concert piece, Indianapolis-based artist Karen Irwin takes the audience on a musical journey through her own personal transformation as inspired by her musical idol, Janis Joplin. Joplin used her “un-girly” voice and her no-holds-barred, blues-inspired performance style to triumph over her personal and social adversities, forever changing the face of women in music. With anecdotes and Joplin songs including “Mercedes Benz,” “Piece of My Heart,” and “Bobby McGee,” Irwin pays homage to the musical icon and delivers a rocking good time.
The Bangor-based band Rock Revelation featuring Heather Astbury-Libby will open each show.
“Obviously, we couldn’t get Janis, but we have found in Karen Irwin a sensational artist who embodies Joplin’s spirit and possesses her remarkable gift as a vocalist,” said Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public May 1. They are $42 each and $37 for subscribers. New subscriptions are available now. Other discounts do not apply.
