FAIRFIELD — Anthony Franchetti belted an RBI single in the seventh inning to plate Colton Lawrence and lift Mt. Blue to a 6-5 win over Lawrence on Wednesday.
Lawrence led the Cougars (3-1) with three hits and four RBIs, while Franchetti and Ethan Andrews contributed with two hits apiece.
The Bulldogs (2-2) were paced by Devin Webb and Evan Gerard with RBI doubles. Reliever Evan Roberts picked up the win after coming in during the sixth frame, while JT Nutting was tagged with the loss.
Monmouth 8, Telstar 2
BETHEL — Nick Sanborn scattered six hits during the first three frames and drew ample run support as Monmouth overpowered Telstar 8-2 in a MVC baseball tilt Wednesday.
Gage Cote, Chandler Harris and Travis Hartford all had multiple hits for the Mustangs (2-1) in a well-balanced attack.
The Rebels (0-3) were paced by Hunter Williamson and Josh Eliot with two hits apiece. Monmouth jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and was never challenged.
Leavitt 15, MCI 4
PITTSFIELD — Leavitt erupted for eight runs in the fifth and sixth frames Wednesday and went on to post a 15-4 win over MCI in baseball action.
Chad Morin led the Hornets (2-2) with two hits, the squad’s only repeat hitter. MCI was paced by Craig Morrison with three hits, while Pedro Moros pounded out a pair of hits.
Oak Hill 5, Wiscasset 4
WALES — Oak Hill came back from behind in the sixth inning to eventually take a 5-4 win over Wiscasset in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Raiders (1-2) were trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth when they executed five hits to garner four runs. Dalton Therrien roped a triple to plate Kaleb Morrisette for the tying run.
Oak Hill put it’s first two batters on in the bottom of the seventh, including Connor Nilsson’s third single of the day. After two retired hitters, Therrien knocked in the winning run with a single to center field.
Grant Hefler had the only extra base hit for the Wolverines (0-2) with a double.
Brunswick 6, Lewiston 1
BRUNSWICK — Josh Goddard tabulated two hits and two runs as Brunswick ran off with a 6-1 victory over Lewiston in KVAC baseball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Dragons (3-1) scored three runs in the second inning. Four Lewiston errors kept the game from being a lot closer.
Senior shortstop Michael Wong singled in the fourth inning and scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Winthrop 6, Madison 4
MADISON — Senior right fielder Ben Caprara was perfect at the plate with four hits and two RBI’s to lead Winthrop to a 6-4 victory over Madison in MVC baseball action Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Matt Sekerak went 2-for-3 at the plate and had a pair of outstanding catches in center field to assist the Ramblers (2-0) in the outfield.
The Winthrop pitcher, Ben Allen tossed the complete game win with 93 pitches, striking out two and walking just one.
Junior pitcher Chase Malloy started on the mound and pitched for three innings for the Bulldogs (2-1). He gave up just two runs, and collected a pair of singles on offense.
Boys’ lacrosse
St. Dom’s 17, Lawrence 3
AUBURN — Junior attackman Brandan Donovan stashed four goals to lead St. Dom’s to a 17-3 rout over Lawrence in boys’ lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints (2-0) jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter. Kenton Ernst tallied three goals, while Austin Roy contributed two goals and three assists in the game.
Phil Gradway managed eight shots, and picked up one goal for the Bulldogs (1-2).
Oak Hill 8, Winslow 7
WALES — Senior midfielder Kyle Flaherty scored a hat trick as Oak Hill survived an 8-7 victory over Winslow in boys’ lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.
Jacob Houghton netted a pair of goals for the Black Raiders.
Freshman goalie Brandon Michaud made 10 saves for his first career win in his first career game in net for the Raiders.
Erskine 8, Mt. Blue 5
SOUTH CHINA — Trevor Brown netted four goals and Max Pacholski added two as Erskine hustled to a 8-5 win over Mt. Blue in a KVAC boys’ lacrosse tilt Wednesday.
Josh Reed and Grayson Petty also tallied for the Eagles (1-1) to complete the scoring. Connor Rouillard led the winless Cougars (0-4) with two goals, while single goals from Levi Meader, Avery Guistra and Cordell Ellis rounded out the final tally.
Jake Church made 13 saves for Erskine, while Alex Gilbert and Leo Flannery combined to deflect nine shots for Mt. Blue.
Girls’ softball
Lisbon 2, Mountain Valley 1
LISBON — Kyle Bourget smacked a two-run single to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning as Lisbon walked off with a 2-1 victory over Mountain Valley on Wednesday.
Bourget connected on a 1-2 pitch from Mountain Valley starting pitcher Ian Austin, plating Nick Lerette from third and Ryley Austin from second. Lerette led off the seventh with a walk and Austin was hit by a pitch. RJ Sargent moved the runners over with a slow roller to third before Bourget won it for the Greyhounds (2-0).
Bourget picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run on five hits, striking out 14 and walking one in a complete-game effort.
Austin suffered the loss for the Falcons (1-2), pitching 6 1/3 innings of six-hit ball.
Mountain Valley’s John Pepin went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Gray-New Gloucester 4, Poland 3
GRAY — Gray-New Gloucester scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 4-3 walk-off victory over Poland on Wednesday.
Aly Martell pitched four innings of relief for the Patriots (2-0), allowing one run while striking out four. Skye Conley finished 2-for-2 with a two-run single in the fourth.
The Knights (2-2) led 3-0 after 3½innings. Haley Whitworth went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Kylie Martin suffered the loss, striking out eight and walking five over 6 1/3 innings. She went 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple.
Oak Hill 26, Wiscasset 0
WALES — Michaela Nadeau scattered three hits and drew ample run support as Oak Hill overpowered Wiscasset, 26-0, in a MVC softball matchup Wednesday.
Sadie Goulet led the Raiders (1-2) to their first win 0f 2015 with two hits and five RBIs. Grace Sabine also contributed with three hits and two RBIs, while Kayla Veilleux plated one run on two hits.
August Moore went the distance for Wiscasset (0-3), giving up 14 hits overall and an amazing 21 runs in the third frame.
Dirigo 15, Mt. Abram 3
DIXFIELD — Brittany Greig and Kaitlin Morang combined to record four hits and six RBIs as Dirigo overwhelmed Mt. Abram, 15-3, in MVC softball action Wednesday.
Katelyn Olsen led the Cougars efforts, giving up just three hits in five innings of work. She also helped her own cause with a pair of hits.
The Roadrunners were paced by Jacey Davenport with three hits, while Olivia Ryan suffered the loss.
Lawrence 10, Mt. Blue 6
FAIRFIELD — Lilly Heron scattered 11 hits and received adequate run support as Lawrence rolled to a 10-6 victory over Mt. Blue in more KVAC softball action Wednesday.
Lauren Watson smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the second to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 advantage. The Cougars bounced back in the third with three runs, including a two-run single by Rachelle Bator.
Lawrence added two runs in the bottom of the inning, while Mt. Blue answered with three more runs on a single and stolen base by Caitlin Kane, along with RBI singles from Moesha Harrington, Lauren Guppy and Bator.
Winslow 18, Maranacook 3
WINSLOW — Hillary Libby scattered four hits and received all kinds of run support as Winslow easily overpowered Maranacook, 18-3, in KVAC softball action.
Sarah Guimond led the Black Raiders (4-0) with three hits and four RBIs, while Hayley Pottle belted a triple, three singles and plated a pair of runs.
Amber Ridlon led the Black Bears (2-2) with a single and two RBIs, while Paige Costa suffered the loss.
Telstar 2, Monmouth 0
BETHEL — Junior pitcher Olivia York scattered four hits and struck out nine as Telstar battled to a 2-0 victory over Monmouth in MVC softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Sadie Ellsworth collected all three of the Rebels (2-0) hits.
Second baseman Annie Pushman made a pivotal play, converting a soft liner into the third out and preventing the Mustangs (1-2) from producing any runs.
Senior pitcher Katie Canning performed well on the mound, fanning 10 batters.
Fryeburg 8, Wells 3
FRYEBURG — Senior right fielder Amanda Gillette produced a three-run triple to power Fryeburg to an 8-3 victory over Wells in softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Pitcher Lexy Hay put the Warriors (1-2) on the board first with a two-run single in the first inning.
The Raiders (3-0) were trailing 3-0 when they came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. Following a four-run fifth, sophomore catcher Makayla Cooper contributed a run-scoring double in the middle of the sixth for another four-run inning.
Spruce Mountain 9, Waterville 1
WATERVILLE — Senior pitcher Alex Bessey struck out six and tagged a pair of hits to lead Spruce Mountain to a 9-1 victory over Waterville in KVAC softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Grace Ryan recorded a triple and a single for the Phoenix (1-3), who scored eight runs over the final three innings.
The Panthers (0-4) were held scoreless after a one-run first inning.
Boothbay 7, St. Dom’s 6
BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Boothbay notched their first win in two years with a 7-6 triumph over St. Dom’s in softball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
But the Seahawks stopped them short of the tying run and held them in the next frame.
Girls’ lacrosse
Lewiston 10, Brunswick 6
LEWISTON — Kristina Blais notched four goals to lead Lewiston to a 10-6 victory over Brunswick in girls’ lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon.
The Blue Devils (2-0) controlled 11 of 16 draws, and Paige Fontaine had eight saves in net for Lewiston. Dacia Bail contributed three goals in the effort.
While Erica McMillan led the Dragons with three goals, the Brunswick offense was shut down over the last 12 minutes by Lewiston.
