PARIS — The Lewiston High School Blue Devils girls’ lacrosse team demonstrated its scoring depth Thursday afternoon.

Junior Kristina Blais led the offensive output for the Blue Devils with five goals and two assists in the 11-2 victory over the Oxford Hills Vikings. Emily Brochu chipped in with a hat trick and two assists, while Lauren Lecompte had a pair of goals. Allison Frechette had a goal and an assist in the victory.

“One thing about our team we are really balanced. We got a bunch of girls that can score,” Lewiston coach Skip Capone said. “Kristina (Blais) was the girl today. She does a great job; she’s just a good player for us.”

For Oxford Hills, this game was a good learning experience for the team.

“All teams are different. It’s really good. It gives us an opportunity what other teams are really focused on,” Oxford Hills coach Jaimee Brett said. “We could tell Lewiston was really focused on passing it and transitioning (the ball) down field. That can be a goal for us to set and a good learning spot to say, ‘OK, let’s move on and what can we improve from here and how we move on to get ready for Brunswick on Monday.'”

Brochu opened up the game scoring the first three goals, with the first one coming 2:17 into the game on an assist by Frechette. Her second goal was an unassisted effort just past the six-minute mark Her final goal of the contest was set up by Blais at the 9:47 mark of the opening half.

Blais added her second assist when she found Lauren Lecompte for her first goal of the contest with 9:37 remaining in the opening half.

Frechette rounded out the scoring of the opening frame with 2:46 remaining.

The Vikings (1-1) used the halftime to regroup and capitalized early on in the second half when Alyssa Hanley put Oxford Hills on the board.

“I definitely think it boosted the morale and their whole energy level came up after that,” Brett said of Hanley’s goal. “I think they were this is a different type of game than Tuesday, and it was a good learning experience for all the girls.

After Blais found the back of the net for the third time at the 7:24 mark of the second half, Amber Jenkins found the back of the net for the Vikings’ second goal.

“Having coached and refereed for this area for many, many years, there is never any quit in the Vikings,” Capone said. “I don’t care, we knew they were going to come out and take their best shot to open the second half. They came out, played hard, kind of gave us a little bit of a wake-up call — kind of got the ship righted again and played well.”

Lacompte and Blais scored seven seconds apart with 2:34 and 2:27 remaining in the game to finish the Blue Devils’ scoring.

The Blue Devils (3-0) outshot the Vikings 22-7, with Paige Fontaine making three saves for Lewiston, while Sam Bickford stopped eight shots for Oxford Hills.

“Defensively we played well,” Capone said. “Transitions were good, we were patient and we got really good looks. I am happy how we are playing right now.”
