Prosecutors have charged the drivers involved in a February road rage incident that sent one car over a bridge in Casco and into icy water.

The complaints were filed in Cumberland County court on Wednesday, charging both drivers for their role in an incident that authorities said could have ended much worse.

“Well, it’s a pretty serious driving incident, where people could potentially get hurt or killed,” said Lt. Don Foss, of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. “So, it’s a big deal for us.”

On Feb. 23, a red pick up truck and silver SUV collided near the Casco-Naples town line, with the truck hitting the guardrail and the SUV going over, into the Crooked River below.

The truck driver, Dustin Kilburn, 26, of Naples, is charged with two counts of driving to endanger.

Emmanuel Ticas, 23, of Conway, New Hampshire, who was behind the wheel of the SUV, faces one count of leaving the scene of an accident.

Foss wouldn’t comment on the case since it’s now in the District Attorney’s hands, but he said road rage isn’t rare.

“We see alot of them,” said Foss. “People call frequently reporting tailgating or excessive passing.”

If faced with an aggressive driver, Foss said his biggest piece of advice is to not take it personally. Instead, pull over, get out of the way and call police.

“You never really know who you’re dealing with that’s in the other vehicle, so it’s always dangerous to engage in some type of behavior with another unknown person,” he said.

CBS 13 reached out to both men to hear their side of the story, but didn’t get a response. The District Attorney’s Office also had no comment.

Kilburn and Ticas are due in court in June. If convicted they each face up six months in jail and $1,000 in fines.
