1923 – 2015
LEWISTON — Robert Louis Townsend, 92, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 29.
Bob was born April 24, 1923, in Eastport. He was the son of Robert C. and Mary Elsie (Parker) Townsend.
Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served on the USS Boyle, DD600, in the Mediterranean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
Bob taught business subjects for more than 30 years in Jackman, Mapleton and Jonesport, Middleborough, Mass., and Burlington, Vt., finishing his career at Sabattus and Lewiston high schools.
Bob and Hilda enjoyed traveling and camping for more than 40 years and wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla., from 1996 to 2013. Bob especially enjoyed reunions with shipmates of the USS Boyle.
Bob is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Hilda Marie (McPhail) Townsend; his parents; and brothers, Walter and George.
