RANGELEY — The Maine Forestry Museum, 221 Stratton Road, Route 16, Rangeley, has listed its schedule of events for 2015.
Saturday, July 4: Annual benefit (reserved) auction. Preview at 9:30 a.m., auction at 10:30 a.m. Auctioneers: Glen and Rosie Carlow of Carlow’s Countryside Auction in Harmony. Items include gift certificates, homemade baked goods, antique furniture, historic artifacts, hand-designed wooden furniture by MFM’s volunteers and more. Complimentary coffee and sweets provided.
Friday and Saturday, July 24-25: Celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the MFM’s Logging Festival and Parade.
Friday’s events feature a four-hour presentation by the Maine Horse and Oxen Association, preparation and demonstration of burying bean-hole beans, demonstration of reflector oven biscuits, woodworker and fiber artisan demonstrations, and vendor booths, food concession, miniature pony wagon rides and petting farm, and more. Guy Rioux, author of two books in the “Franklin County Narrow Gauges” series, “The Next Stop is Phillips,” and “The Next Stop is Rangeley.” He will be on hand both days to autograph copies and discuss his research.
Friday evening — Special 30th Anniversary and reunion of the Miss and Mr. Wood Chip Contest. Many former “Wood Chips” will be on board to celebrate this occasion, which will be held at the museum fairgrounds this season. Special entertainment by the “Northern Explosion Cloggers” of Sanford. Saturday, the 35th Annual Logging Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Rangeley and the festival day will immediately follow at MFM’s fairgrounds located at 221 Stratton Road. Festival highlights include Lumber Jack and Lumber Jill competitions sponsored by Stihl-Northeast, authentic bean-hole bean dinner, indoor and outdoor forestry museum exhibits, miniature pony wagon rides and petting farm for children, live music, woodworker, wrought iron and fiber artisan demonstrations and vendor booths, multiple chainsaw carving demonstrations and more.
Saturday, Aug. 22: Trails and Sales Festival. Celebration of trail expansion. Ron Haines will officiate in the dedication of “The Chief’s Point” trail in honor of Andre Brochu, brother to Adrian Brochu of A&A Brochu in Stratton, fourth generation loggers. Chainsaw carving, forestry exhibits, woodworker, artisan and craft vendors with demonstrations, music, etc. Petting farm for children, food concessions, museum exhibits and more. This event coincides with the Mason’s “Widower’s Sons” annual benefit motorcycle ride, “Maddie’s Run” beginning and ending at the MFM fairgrounds.
Saturday, Oct. 3: 22nd Annual Apple Harvest Festival. Traditional beef stew and vegetarian luncheon with apple crisp dessert. Large bake sale, raffle, Trask Orchard apples for on-site apple pressing and purchase (bring your own containers for cider), forestry exhibits, chainsaw carving, fiber artisan, crafters and woodworker vendors, children’s pumpkin activity center and more.
