AUBURN — During the School Committee meeting Wednesday night, student representative Jake Bazinet gave his usual report on what’s going on at Edward Little High School.

The prom is Saturday, May 9, at Lost Valley. May 19 is student community service, and graduation is 23 days, 23 hours, 31 minutes and 44 seconds away. Someone is excited to graduate.

Bazinet has sat through hours of less-than-exciting school committee meetings for several years as the student representative. He said he plans to study criminal justice at Thomas College in Waterville this fall. His last school board meeting is May 20.

He was thanked for his service. “You’re a credit to this community young man,” committee member Peter Letourneau said.

King: ‘Get all the education you can’

On Monday, U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, Skyped with Edward Little students, and answered their questions.

One student asked if he had advice for them.

King told them not to sell themselves short, set their goals high. “The sky’s the limit,” he said.

Stephen King didn’t come from a wealthy family, he didn’t have a father, he almost didn’t go to college, King said. Today he’s a superstar author.

He also told students to continue their education. “If you stop your education at a certain point, you’ll have 10 doors open. Get more, 20 doors open. If you go further you’ll have 100. Get all the education you can, have a positive attitude and you’ll do fine.”
