LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women has started a new support group, Women for Sobriety.

It will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays starting May 20 and will be led by Lise Pelletier and Denise Mailhot. Both women are licensed addiction counselors with combined experience of more than 50 years and are affiliated with Health Affiliates Maine.

Women For Sobriety is a non-profit group dedicated to helping women overcome alcoholism and other addictions. It is the first national self-help program for women alcoholics. Begun in July of 1976, it helps women achieve sobriety and sustain ongoing recovery.

Based on a Thirteen Statement Program of positivity, WFS encourages emotional and spiritual growth. It is an abstinence program that has been extremely effective as an alternative or addition to AA groups in helping women overcome their addictions and embrace a new positive lifestyle.

There is no fee for the program, but voluntary donations are encouraged. FMI on Women For Sobriety see: http://womenforsobriety.org
