AUBURN — He wears shorts in the winter, boots on the beach and his favorite color is flannel. Maine native Krazy Jake Hodgdon, a star on Animal Planet’s new hit series Yankee Jungle, will headline Maine Event Comedy at 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, at the Auburn Fireside Inn.
His first appearance in the twin cities will also include fellow comedians Bill Picard and Mark Turcotte.
Yankee Jungle is a docu-series showcasing DEW Haven, a zoo of sorts in Mt. Vernon which cares for more than 200 animals. Hodgdon, the handyman on the show, has already had hilarious run-ins with spider monkeys, black bears and DEW staff.
He recorded his debut album in Ellsworth last year. The performance, which is due for release this summer, captures his Maine-influenced, high energy, blue-collar style.
Picard is truly a unique act.He spent three years touring with Bob Marley and has performed at many of New England’s premiere venues including Foxwoods Casino, The Wilbur Theater in Boston, Meadowbrook Pavilion in NH and Merrill Auditorium in Portland.
Born with cerebral palsy and confined to a wheelchair, he has used his physical disability to both educate and entertain. He was a finalist in Portland’s Funniest Professional Contest, earned a business degree at the University of Maine and works as a motivational speaker. He’s performed at the Comedy Connection in Boston and The Funny Bone in Pittsburgh.
Founder of the Comedy Fix fundraising series, Turcotte was a finalist in the Funniest Comic on the East Coast Contest at Mohegan Sun and performed at the 2014 Maine Comedy Festival.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, and may be purchased at maineeventcomedy.com. Seating is general admission and doors open at 7 p.m. The show is for ages 21 and older.
