BRIDGTON — Photographers Andrew Sanborn and Margaret Lindsey Sanborn are the first guest artists of the summer season at Gallery 302, 112 Main St.
Both are Mainers who have Bridgton in their blood: Margaret as a camper and counselor at Camp Wyonegonic, and Drew whose family has lived in Bridgton since 1792.
Photography has become a way of life for the Sanborns. As soon as Drew received a camera from his grandfather in 1971, learning “to see” through a camera lens became of extreme importance. With the influence and encouragement from his creative parents, Dottie and Andy Sanborn, he went on to study at the University of New Hampshire, Wesleyan University, and the Hartford Art School. Margaret, recently retired from Trinity College, lives with her husband in his childhood home in Bridgton surrounded by much artistic inspiration. By photographing antiquities and places of memory, both of the Sanborns attempt to capture the stories of the past visually — giving new life to old objects.
The exhibit may be viewed weekdays from noon to 5 p.m. and on weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. between May 23 and June 19. Meet Margaret and Drew Sanborn at a wine and cheese reception which will be held on from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 5 Gallery 302 is a multi-media artist cooperative with over 40 exhibiting artists.
