BIDDEFORD — Junior midfielder Griffin Wade scored three goals as Lewiston dispatched Biddeford 10-6 in boys’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (8-1) engaged the Tigers (3-4) in a tough ground ball battle. Roman Dennis contributed two goals and seven ground balls in the effort.

Attackman Gavon Powers provided a pair of goals and six ground balls for Biddeford.

Goalie Chris Coullard made 24 saves for Biddeford, while goalie Bryan Wagg made four stops to earn the win in net for Lewiston.

Girls’ lacrosse

Thornton 7, Lewiston 3

LEWISTON — Faith Sinclair and Amanda Cyr led the Trojans with two goals apiece as Thornton thumped Lewiston 7-3 in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans (4-3) led 4-0 at the half, and outshot Lewiston 12-8 in the contest. Kristina Blais had two goals for the Blue Devils (6-3).

Windham 13, Edward Little 2

WINDHAM — Jenna Soucy netted five goals and Luisa Sbardella added four more as Windham rolled to a 13-2 win over Edward Little in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday.

Eliza Palow, Emma Davis, Taylor Colangelo and Katie Skvorak also found the net for the Eagles (5-2), while Erin Malloy needed to make just three saves to register the win in the cage.

Edward Little’s Francesca Haines scored both of her team’s goals, and keeper Mariah Vaillancourt turned back 17 shots in a stellar effort between the pipes.

Baseball

Rangeley, Greenville split

RANGELEY — Rangeley won its first game of the season, beating Greenville 18-8 in baseball, but Greenville bounced back in the second game of the doubleheader to win, 12-9 Saturday.

In Game 1, Rangeley unloaded with 15 runs in the fourth, fifth and six innings to prevail.

Ricky Thompson launched two-run homer and Matt Mendes doubled and singled.

Bo Beaulieu came in on relief in the fourth and got the win on the mound for Rangeley. He also had three hits.

In Game 2, Greenville held on thanks to 12 hits and relief pitching by Trevor Richards who doubled twice. For Rangeley, Ben Forsman had two hits.

Softball

Rangeley takes two

RANGELEY — Rangeley hooked a pair of wins, 13-2 and 9-3, over Greenville in EWC baseball action Saturday evening.

The Rangeley (4-3) bats came alive after the first inning in the first game.

The pitcher Senior Taylor Estes had three hits, and Rangeley batted around in the fourth inning for seven runs.

Freshman catcher Sydney Royce pounded out three hits in the nightcap and had a phenomenal day behind the plate.

Estes earned the mound wins in both games.

College baseball

Albany 6, Maine 1

ALBANY, N.Y. — The University of Maine dropped the regular season finale 6-1 to the University at Albany on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Bears (24-26) tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Luke Morrill singled and stole second base. He scored when Brian Doran doubled down the right field line.

Albany added four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Shawn Blake led off the inning with a home run.

Jacob Gosselin-Deschesnes went the first 5.2 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits.

He struck out four and falls to 3-3 on the season. Connor Johnson allowed two hits in a third of an inning.

Charlie Butler went the final two innings and allowed a run on two hits.

Maine will be the third seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and will face the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Thursday at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass.
