College for ME-Androscoggin, FAME to offer to game to area middle school students

College for ME-Androscoggin is partnering with the Finance Authority of Maine to offer the “Claim Your Future” game in middle schools in Androscoggin County. The game encourages students to explore career and college options, and covers topics such as budgeting and money management. Students in the classroom are randomly assigned a career and must make spending choices reflecing the career’s monthly budget.

C4ME-A and FAME have incorporated college-related vocabulary and student loan debt information into the latest version of the game. The two organizations have also worked together to create lesson plans so the game can also be played at home. Each middle school in Androscoggin County will be given at least one game kit.

A press event will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the Auburn Public Library. The following people will be in attendance: Mary Dyer, FAME financial education officer; Jan Phillips, executive director of College for ME-Androscoggin; Doug Dumont, aspirations coordinator, Lewiston High School; 2 middle school students; and 2 high school seniors.
