LEEDS — Maine State Police troopers and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized a small arsenal from a felon who said he was shooting at a rat Monday, an official said.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said a news release that Guy Schultz, 43, of 54 Fish St., was arrested after firing a gun near his neighbor’s property. After arriving at the scene, troopers learned Schultz had a felony burglary conviction from 1991 and is prohibited from owning firearms.

Inside his home, troopers found handguns, rifles, shotguns and silencers, McCausland said.

Schultz was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
