The theme this month is Art Walk Shoes, so we will be painting still-life shoes we provide, or bring your own favorite new, old, fancy, wacky or fun pair of kickers to paint — not on the shoe, on a real canvas.

Once completed the pieces will be trotted down to Avant-Garde Maine at 182 Lisbon Street and Wicked Illustrations at 140 Canal Street to be enjoyed by all the Art Walk patrons.

We are also looking for 30 one-foot-by-one-foot standard canvases for the painters to use. To RSVP or donate canvases, call L/A Arts at 207-782-7228 or email mail@laarts.org. Thank you. — Josh Vink, executive director, L/A Arts.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We have a great need for a community volunteer from the Minot area to provide companionship for a 92-year-old woman who is waiting for a volunteer to visit her each week. She would love someone to go out for walks with her and provide transportation to get her out occasionally for shopping, lunch, or other social activities. Her greatest need to do these things is for the months of May to October.

Our Catholic Charities SEARCH program (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope) relies almost entirely on the help of volunteers to provide friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, and transportation support to lonely and isolated seniors like our senior in Minot, and throughout Androscoggin County.

Many of the seniors in our Program seek companionship or socialization opportunities as they may live alone and have no transportation, so they need help with getting out into their communities for errands, grocery shopping, or to their appointments. Our program provides orientation training and ongoing support for our volunteers.

If you have three to four hours a week to give to a senior from your own community, or would like to be matched with our senior in Minot, and want more information about becoming a volunteer with us, please call our office at 207-784-0157.

Thank you again for your help in continuing to support and promote our valuable program as we continue to support seniors in our communities. With much gratitude, Wendy Russell, Catholic Charities SEARCH Program.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Sunspots is awsome! You have helped me before and I have helped others so my question is: Is there a place to donate pill bottles for Haiti in Maine? If so could you let me know where to donate them. Thank you. — No Name, No Town.

ANSWER: Sun Spots has read about out-of-state organizations that collect pill bottles, but not in Maine. Maybe our readers can help. Anyone know of a program in Maine that collects empty medication bottles that are donated to countries like Haiti?
