FARMINGTON — The contributions of veterans will be recognized at Memorial Day ceremonies and parades in area towns this holiday weekend.
The schedule of events is:
Sunday, May 24
Wilton
2 p.m. service at the monument on Main Street. The Old Crow Band will lead those wishing to walk to the American Legion Hall for a flag-raising ceremony. A hay wagon will take those who want to participate but are unable to walk.
Monday, May 25
Farmington
9 a.m.: Wreath-laying ceremony at the WWI Monument with color guard. Prayer by chaplain Langdon Adams
9:30 a.m.: Color guard will post the colors and chaplain Langdon Adams will offer a prayer at the Post hall. Pledge of Allegiance, national anthem sung by Legionnaire Jim Harris, welcome by First Vice Commander Tim Callahan, who will introduce Attorney Paul Mills. “America the Beautiful” by all and benediction by Adams. Wreath-laying ceremony at the American Legion Post Memorial.
10 a.m.: Parade, followed by a light luncheon
Jay-Livermore Falls
6:30 a.m.: Honor guard, veterans, veterans’ organizations, citizens meet at VFW Post 3335.
7 a.m.: Prayer and wreath ceremony by VFW Post 3335 at Livermore Falls Memorial Bridge.
7:20 a.m.: Prayer and wreath ceremony by AMVETS Post 33 at Livermore Veterans Memorial.
7:45 a.m.: Prayer and wreath ceremony by VFW Post 3335 at Jay POW/MIA Bridge.
8:15 a.m.: Prayer by Dorothy White at Jay Hill Cemetery, wreath ceremony and firing squad by Memorial Day Committee.
8:45 a.m.: Prayer and wreath ceremony by VFW Post 3335 at VFW Post 3335.
9 a.m.: Parade forms at Memco parking lot, Main Street in Jay
10 a.m.: Parade begins. Stops include:
* Chisholm Square WWII War Memorial for prayer, speech and wreath ceremony by VFW Post 3335 and Regional School Unit 73 band playing the national anthem and taps;
* Richard Cemetery for prayer and wreath ceremony by the AMVETS Post, RSU 73 band; Grand Army of the Republic Monument for prayer and wreath ceremony by Knights of Columbus Council 320), RSU 73 band;
* Livermore Falls Union Park for prayer and wreath ceremony by American Legion Post 10;
* Fire Police EMS Monument for prayer and wreath ceremony by fire, police and EMS personnel, RSU 73 band.
12:15 p.m.: Fayette Memorial for prayer and wreath ceremony by American Legion Post 10.
1:15 p.m.: Leeds Memorial in Leeds Center, Route 106 and Church Road.
Weld
1 p.m.: Parade forms at the Masonic hall and marches to the library.
2 p.m.: Service of Remembrance with veterans Lawrence “Rusty” Lee, Bernard Vining and Edmund Hutchinson presented with mementos for their service to the country.
