WATERFORD — Waterford Library is offering a new group: the Minecraft Club. The club is being held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays. It started on May 6.

It is an educational, open game so kids can work together. Minecraft is good for kids teaching kids focus, flexibility, organization, planning, working together and time management. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Minecraft is recommended for ages 6 and up.

Coffee Hour is held at 10 a.m. Fridays when coffee and homemade goodies are available along with conversation.

The new library website is up. There is information on programs and events, volunteer calendars and access the library catalogue.

The library has introduced the new volunteer coordinator, Marion Brennan. She is training new volunteers to augment the existing staff. Volunteers will be trained one on one and will be asked to commit to a minimum of one two-hour shift a month.

Current volunteers are welcome to schedule computer training. A volunteer training open house will be held soon. If interested, call Brennan at 583-6315.

Plans are underway for a Community Garden at the library, thanks to Geraldine O’Donnell securing a grant. The planning is underway for wheelchair accessible raised beds. The produce will be donated to local food pantries. Master Gardeners are encouraged fulfill their hours at the library, either at the garden or by conducting lectures on gardening or community gardens.

The library will host an Introduction to Computer class at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 27. The class will be open to everyone and is free. Learn the basics of computers, using the internet and using email. Participants may bring their own device, and the library will have some laptops to use.

The annual library book sale will take place form 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 4. Hardcovers will be $2 and paperbacks $1. From 11:30 a.m. to noon the books will be $1 a bag. Donations are being accepted through Wednesday, July 1.

Kids Discovery Wednesdays will start Wednesday, July 1, and will continue every Wednesday through July. Activities will include stories, crafts and presentations for children. Anyone who has a skill or hobby to teach children should contact the librarian for more information at 583-2050.

A knitting group meets at 2 p.m. Mondays; Socrates Cafe, first Monday of the month; book discussion, fourth Wednesday of the month; Mystery Book Club, second Tuesday of the month.
