SABATTUS — Sabattus has been designated a Maine HeartSafe Community. The program recognizes local efforts made to provide strong cardiovascular-related emergency care for residents and visitors, and promotes partnership between local EMS services and community partners to improve overall cardiovascular health and awareness.
To receive a HeartSafe honor, cities and towns are awarded points, or “heartbeats,” based on their ability to meet program criteria such as CPR and automated external defibrillator training for community members and public AED placement and training. The town will continue to provide instructional seminars throughout the year, according to Fire Chief Marc Veilleux.
Platinum, Gold, Silver and Basic designations have been awarded to 80 EMS services, covering 294 communities in Maine, and more than 981,582 residents so far. Sabattus was given the silver level designation. The town will receive road signs designating it as a HeartSafe community.
