It was right after the arrest,
When the riot broke out.
The people were shouting,
“Let him out!”
*
The mother was crying,
“No! Don’t take my son!”
But the cops didn’t listen.
The held him against a gun.
*
When in the car,
The poor son was trapped.
Against the door he banged,
On the glass he clapped!
*
He banged and smashed,
Until his spine was wrecked.
Then he went,
To meet his death.
*
At the hospital,
One by one,
His brain was going.
His spine gone.
*
The nurses tried to help him so!
But Freddie,
He was long gone.
He went and was never seen again.
*
Then the protests started one by one.
The people saying,
“Freddie, why are you gone?”
For him they’re praying.
*
But the protests go on
Killing many people!
Others getting arrested,
Blowing up steeples.
*
The streets and the stores
At night
All of Baltimore
Goes to fight!
*
The people go until the dawn.
Then the cops, they sure do come.
The people gone to jail were many.
Everyone’s hearts beating like drums!
*
To the March of Freddie Gray!
They boarded up stores,
Restaurants,
And people’s doors.
*
From the blowing of the bombs.
The screeching of the screams.
The sound of the silence.
The police come in streams.
*
To fix the town
That was wrecked
By Freddie’s death,
But then it finally stopped.
