JAY — Robert J. Barker Sr., 69, a resident of East Jay Road, Jay, died suddenly early Sunday morning, May 31, at his home.
He was born May 16, 1946, in Island Falls, the son of Leland and Mary (Shean) Barker. Bob attended school in Island Falls. He served in the National Guard. On July 3, 1965, he married Katherine Wyman and had two children. She passed away on May 20, 1996. He later married Mary Ann Hebert on April 5, 1997, and made their home in Jay. Bob worked construction most of his life as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for R.J. Grondin in Gorham and recently retired in 2013. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and anything to do with the outdoors. He and Mary Ann enjoyed going to their camp on Alder Stream and camping in Dixfield. Bob also took much pride in watching and helping in his grandson Brandon’s racing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Barker of Jay; his son, Robert Barker Jr. and his wife, Marybeth, of Windham; his daughter, Julie Barker-Dudley and her husband, Robert III, of Windham; two stepsons, Steven Todd Hewins and his companion, Angel, of Fayette; and Craig Hewins and his wife, Breanne, of Fayette; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Baker of Island Falls; Linda Raymond and husband, Bert, of Sherman; and Karen Thebarge and husband, Paul, of Morrill; brother-in-law, Larry Roberge and his wife, Darlene, of Yarmouth; father-in-law, Gene Belanger of Jay; brothers-in-law, William Hebert of Jay, Steve Hebert of Dixfield, and Palmer Hebert and wife, Kelli, of Livermore Falls; also his best little buddy his dog, “Hunter.”
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Katherine; his sister, Robin Robinson; brother-in-law, Albert Baker; mother-in-law, Annie Belanger; and father-in-law, Robert “Gus” Hebert.
