LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society meeting on Wednesday, June 10, will feature a talk by the owners of the historic Packard-Littlefield Farm.
Bob and Ella Mae Packard have developed a unique property, now containing over 400 acres of farmland, wetland and a managed tree farm, all bordering the Sabattus River in Lisbon, with some fields also in Sabattus and Lewiston.
All the property is in an agricultural conservation easement, ensuring that it will be protected from development and remain a working farm.
The history of the Packard-Littlefield Farm is unusual. It was established in 1790 by the Arris family and came into the Littlefield family in 1853. There have been only two families sharing ownership of the farm through the years.
The Packards will talk about some of the Littlefield family members and how a family farm operated in the past. This will contrast with how the farm is managed now, with many regional and statewide agricultural events taking place there.
The program will take place in room 10 at the MTM Center, School Street. Because of renovations to the building, the society archives and museum will not be open, and those attending should use the front entrance. The program is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7.
