Strong Elementary School students have a busy schedule as school winds down for the summer. Eighth grade students will take their class trip to Boston, and kindergarten and first graders will take a trip to Porter Lake and the town park. Students will attend a morning assembly on June 17, with final dismissal at 11:30 a.m. Staff will attend a workshop on June 17 and 18. Students also hosted an Authors’ Tea and a stringed instrument concert on Wednesday.

“Every Hero Has A Story” is the Strong Public Library’s 2015 summer reading program theme, according to Director Cheryl McCleery. Readers from ages 3 – 12 will learn about community heroes, fictitious superheroes, and heroes who are just like them.

Come to the library on Thursdays from 6:45–8 p.m., beginning July 2. Along with stories about heroes, there will be crafts and snacks. Each week, children will earn chances to win one of several prizes, including a girls’ and a boys’ bicycle.

Registration for the program is ongoing until June 19. Each child who registers for the program will receive a voucher for Portland Seadogs tickets. For more information, call the library at 684-4003 (Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 p.m.-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.), or stop by to pick up a registration form.

Congratulations to Reilly Romanoski and her parents, Vernon and Diana. She is the valedictorian at Mt. Abram High School and will be delivering her farewell speech on Friday night.

Congratulations also to McKenzie Tyler and Trevor Brackley, who join Reilly on the Top Ten list of excellence at Mt. Abram High School. Strong has a lot to be proud of every year, because its students shine.
